Softwin decides to introduce the new technology named Active Virus Control in latest Internet Security Suite version 2010. This is another step forward for Romanian company Softwin which launched another great product. We tested BitDefender Internet Security 2010 in advanced ways and we can say that version of BDIS is a great security product. Anyway, if you compare this version with Bitdefender Internet Security 2009 version you can see very fast many improvements at this software because usability was re-projected with user in mind. Installation of BitDefender Internet Security 2010 was quickly (about 4 minutes) pretty well for this type of software. When installation is complete you must restart your computer and configure & register the software. The configuration it has few steps. You have more options when you asked about computer usage: typical configuration, parent (parental control), gamer (with settings for gamers) and custom (with your own configuration). A great thing at this version of Bitdefender Internet Security 2010 is that software offers you possibility to use this software on 3 computers with the same license. You pay once for BitDefender and you have three PC’s protected against Internet threats. 
The computer can be setup with desktop configuration default or can be configured to protect a laptop PC. In laptop mode BidDefender Internet Security 2010 lower the resources consuming and the battery can be used a long period of time. Usability of BitDefender Internet Security was improved in this version. You may choice from three types of users: Novice level, Intermediate user or Expert User. First of all is really simple, with just most important buttons: Scan, Update and Vulnerability Check. The other types of users have more controls at the software interface.
Settings for expert mode are categorized in a very simple way:
- Dashboard – offers a global view of computer problems and vulnerability. You have a possibility to verify in the PC has problem in this section;
- Parental – you can configure BitDefender to protect the children with this type of settings. You can switch very easy and fast from parental control default configurations.
- Security – access to settings for security shield;
- File Vault – you can encrypt private date and keep these files in this private area, accessible with a password;
- Network – offers the access to network configurations and few types of protection against hackers mode.
You can switch fast the configuration mode: from normal mode to Game Mode. This type of settings aid gamers to play without security problems. The firewall is automatically switched in the game mode setting and the resources of computer are used just for gaming.
We can say this version of Bitdefender was very much improve just with the user in mind, the menu to access at the features is very simple and easy to understand.
The antispam protection runs at a good level of spam detection. Bitdefender works to a lot of mail software clients: Outlook (all versions), Outlook Express, Windows Mail and Thunderbird Mail.
BitDefender Internet Security 2010 has a very good rate of detection. It can be used with success against malware, viruses, spyware, spammers and hackers.
BitDefender decides to use three sections to assure the protection of computers. First layer is linked to virus signature database. This layer used to detect malware intrusions. The other two layers are user to detect the threats (especially viruses) just by looking at the mode that potential programs runs. BitDefender called these layers B-Have and Active Virus Control (AVC), and use it to offer high proactive detection against unknown and undiscovered viruses and threats. This couple of layers makes a very good job and this integrated heuristic detection makes from computer a very difficult target.
The scanning speed of BitDefender Internet Security 2010 is a lot improved and the consuming resources of the PC were improved in the same time. The rate of detection is at a high level but is not still capable to win against Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. We hope that in the future Bitdefender Internet Security will be a better competitor against this year winner. Anyway, this version of BitDefender is a very good piece of software and we recommend it to every computer user.
